In 2019 we have seen an increase in awareness of the importance of protecting the environment. Here at Westward Living, we live in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK, self-catering holiday cottages and coastal grounds are located in an official AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) within the UNESCO BIOSPHERE RESERVE.
Its is so important to us as a family to do everything we can to make sure that we are playing our part in preserving this beautiful part of Devon for the next generation. We have recently taken many steps to improve our environmental footprint. Reducing the use of single use plastics has been a priority this year and its started with replacing our complimentary toiletry sets with a beautiful collection of bespoke handmade local products beautiful wrapped in rustic brown paper and no plastic packaging!
Another family leading the way in Westward Ho! are our good friends, John and Julie Martin. The Martin family own the Carousel Amusement Arcade in Westward Ho!, they recently commissioned a giant plastic gobbling steel fish outside their establishment. The fish has been named “Philup” and he is in a great location at the top of the slipway, ready for holiday makers and locals pop fill him up with single use plastics they find or use on the beach.
Do go down and visit Phillup when you are next visiting Westward Ho! beach this summer, why not pop in to the penny arcade at the same time!
