What if we change our mind?
We regret that deposits made for holidays and events are non refundable as per our terms and conditions which is why we advise you to make sure your dates work before making a booking. If you are making a reservation for a wedding we strongly advise that you take out the appropriate insurance to cover you in the unlikely event of a cancellation.
How can we pay?
We accept most major credit cards and debit cards. We also accept bank transfers and cheques. Details of how to make payment are available at point of booking.
There are two petrol stations in the local town of Bideford which is about 3 miles away from us here at Westward Living. Morrisons supermarket in the centre of Bideford has a large petrol station which is open every day, alternatively there is a local petrol station called Blights close by to ASDA.
Morrison’s and Esso garages are next door to each other in the town of Bideford about 3m away.
Blights garage is located on the left hand side of Clovelly Road near ASDA. Carry on past ASDA on your right; Blights garage is on the left hand side it is about 2.5m from Duckhaven.
If you are coming via Barnstaple there are two opportunities to fill up en route to us, one is at Tesco's which is 10 miles from us and clearly signposted from the A39, the other option is slightly further up at the Shell Station or Sainburys at Roundswell, this is easily recognisable near the KFC and Barnstaple Travel lodge.
A service station is located at Roundswell (near KFC) on the A39 link road from Barnstaple towards Bideford.
If you are travelling south to see the wonderful local delights of Hartland, Clovelly and Bude make sure you have plenty of gas in the tank as the petrol stations are few and far between until you get to Bude (17 miles away).
- Pets and horses
Can I bring horses?
We welcome horses as well has humans here at Westward Living. Farriers cottage has a private paddock including field shelter, adjacent to the garden where you are welcome to bring your own horse at a small fee of £100 per week which includes hay and straw bedding. Please call us on 01237 238 967 to request more information about our livery option.
Do you accept dogs?
We love dogs, but unfortunately due to our location on a stud farm with many thorough bred horses running free in the cliff top fields & goats and chickens living within the grounds we are not able to accept dogs in all of our cottages.
Assistance dogs are made very welcome all year round and Smiley Cottage is our recommended property for guests requiring an accessible cottage or wishing to bring an assistance dog.
We do accept dogs in Smiley & small dogs in Sadlers & Dream cottage by prior arrangement, however all dogs are expected to be on a lead at all times and not to jump up on sofas or beds.
If you are considering bringing a dog please advise us on point of booking to check if this is permitted & we will forward you a copy of our dog policy for your consideration. We are big dog lovers but do not attempt in anyway to falsely promote ourselves as a dog friendly environment as our priority is protecting the wellbeing of the livestock we have on site.
There is a £30 surcharge for bringing along your four legged friend to cover to cost of a deep steam clean that is carried out after your departure. This is not intended to offend in any way, but is simply to ensure that the fibres of the fabrics and soft furnishings in the cottage are ready for our next guests and will not affect any future guests with allergies.
We advise that you contact us on 01237 238 967 to discuss the availability of our dog friendly cottages and to receive a copy of our dog policy prior to booking your short break.
- Same sex groups & parties
Is it possible to book single sex parties/parties of young people?
It is our policy not to take bookings for large single sex parties. Our experience shows that hen parties/stag nights can cause disruption for our other guests. Parties of golfers, social groups or guests on a speciality activity break etc are accepted. Please explain your requirements to us at time of enquiry and we will be happy to assist you.
Parties of younger people should contacty us prior to booking. For young person bookings a security deposit will be required. This is normally paid as a cash deposit on arrival and will be returned in full at the end of the stay; providing the property is left undamaged.

- What to bring
What clothing should we bring?
In the Summer the weather is usually glorious, but please remember we are on stud farm on the coast so a warm jacket and suitable walking shoes/boots are advisable if you are going to take in the amazing views and scenery. In Winter months be sure to wrap up warm with suitable walking attire, that way you can get the best views of the sea crashing against the rocks and take in Westward Ho! beach.
We have a gorgeous range of luxurious toiletries, which have been handmade locally for you to use during your stay with us. We respectfully ask that the bottles remain in the cottage when you depart so they can be refilled for our next guests to enjoy.
Your cottage will be stocked with a selection of essential items to get you through your first day, including washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, tea bags, as well as coffee, sugar and milk so that you can pop the kettle on as soon as you arrive and enjoy your complimentary cream tea.

All products and product dispensers are to remain in the cottages for the next guests to enjoy, however, if you really love the products, please let us know as we do have a few sets available to purchase in the office.
