North Devon perfect spot for literature lovers

Did you know that Charles Kingsley’s famous book Westward Ho! was based upon our Westward Ho! in North Devon. Rudyard Kipling spent most of his youth in Westward Ho! There is a wonderful tribute to Rudyard Kipling in the form of a recreation of the first verse of his world-famous poem “If” along the promenade. All our cottages at Westward Living have private access on to the South West Coastal Footpath. This path leads directly into the village of Westward Ho! and the glorious 2 miles stretch of golden sandy beach. On your way to the beach, do try to stop by the beach huts and take a photo of this wonderful poem. Each year the local fishing village of Appledore is host to a literary bonanza welcoming authors from all over the globe to be part of this prestigious cultural event The Appledore Book Festival. The event runs from Friday 22nd September through to Saturday 30th, ticket sales are currently on line, our beach front apartments and self-catering holiday cottages are only a short distance away from all the action of the book festival. l Here at Westward Living we have a range of beautifully appointed luxurious beach front apartments and self-catering holiday cottages where budding authors and artists can relax and absorb the creative atmosphere. Who knows you could be inspired to write the next block buster!
