The best family holiday we have had to date, especially the horses and the sunset view from our lounge. Great hosts and central location near the beach
Surrounded by nature and breath-taking coastal views, we are lucky that each day we wake up to the sound of birds, horses, chickens and cheeky goats! So, it goes without saying that we are all big animal lovers here at Westward Living.
Back in 2010 we adopted our beloved Raffles from the local animal rescue charity – The North Devon Animal Ambulance. Headed up by Diana Lewis and her team of incredible volunteers, the NDDA works tirelessly to rescue and rehome animals all over North Devon. Raffles certainly landed on his paws when he was adopted by Kathy and Chris 9 years ago, as well as being a much-loved member of the family, he has also worked up the ranks to be Head (and Tail) of Canine Customer Services at Westward Living. Raffles offers his services to our guests who would like to have a 4-legged companion to accompany them for walks within the 60 acres of private grounds or along the South West Coastal Footpath – he is also been known to be partial to an occasional Hockings ice-cream.
The team at Westward Living and Ocean Kave really wanted to do something outstanding to help raise funds and awareness for this much-loved local charity. After a meeting with Trustee of the charity Gill Hodge, Kathy and Gill worked together to come up with a fantastic idea – “Paws for Thoughts”. Already in its 3rdyear, this is now an annual event that takes place on the green in Westward Ho! The event is coordinated and managed by North Devon Animal Ambulance with sponsorship from Westward Living and Ocean Kave.
This year was a resounding success for the event, Westward Living were delighted to be able to top up the funds raised to £1000.
Gill Hodge said “I am writing to express our gratitude to you both for your sponsorship and support of this recent event. We are currently updating equipment in our Animal Welfare Clinic; this will enable us to provide more 'in house' care and reduce the need for 'referrals' to outside vets. hence reducing our overheads and leaving us with more funds to help even more sick & injured animals across North Devon.
The advice and support you offered to our team organising this event was invaluable, and we could not have done it without you!”
We look forward to supporting the event next year and hope that our guests to Westward Living will also be able to join us on the green for a memorable and fun packed event, we have three dog friendly properties on site so why not bring your beloved four legged friend to meet Raffles.
