Winter on the North Devon Coast
With mild weather, peaceful beaches and inspiring light and colours, autumn is a glorious time to visit North Devon. The pace in the Westcountry slows down considerably after the busy summer season, making it the perfect time to unwind by the sea. Beautiful sunny days on Westward Ho! Beach are still common, but tourism is on a much smaller scale, leaving the bay’s glistening water and sweep of golden sand to the few visitors who have discovered that autumn is one of the best times for a holiday in North Devon.
Fall Asleep to the Sound of the Atlantic
If you’re considering an out of season break in North Devon, why not fall asleep to the sound of the Atlantic in one of our Seahorse Apartments? Sea Spray, Lobster Pot and Seahorse Penthouse offer luxury accommodation with breathtaking views of the waves. If you fancy watching the sun set on the horizon with a cocktail or unwinding in your private jacuzzi after a day exploring the coast, we can help.
Our apartments have everything you’ll need for an unforgettable luxury holiday in North Devon. Our Seahorse Penthouse even has a hot tub and private roof garden – perfect for watching the sea or a barbecue on a crisp autumn afternoon. All three apartments have WIFI, 42" TVs, lift access for buggies and wheelchairs and private off-road parking in a secure, gated area – and they have all been awarded five stars by Visit England.
You’ll be a two-minute stroll away from to the village’s Blue Flag beach, where surfing, SUP and bracing, clifftop walks are all spectacular at this time of year. As you wander through the village, you’ll discover family-run shops and a great variety of cafes, restaurants and bar. Look out for spooky house – an old home which fell into disrepair long ago – on the edge of the village.
If you fancy exploring the coast during your stay with us, Westward Ho! is a short drive or bus ride from many of North Devon’s most beautiful locations. A few miles to the west, you’ll discover the dramatic, rocky cove of Buck’s Mills, and a little further along the coast, Clovelly is an idyllic fishing village with a tangle of cobbled lanes to explore, and a lovely harbour, where you can enjoy a pint of local ale while fishing boats land their catch.
Just down the road from our luxury seafront apartments, the ancient market town of Bideford is well worth a visit, with a maze of pretty streets full of independent businesses. Nearby, the villages of Instow and Appledore lie on the banks of the River Torridge with dramatic views across the estuary. The ever-changing light and golden colours in the trees and hedgerows make autumn one of the best seasons for photographers, and you won’t have to go far to find solitude and incredible views of the coast for inspiration.
