Westward Ho! New Year Dippers do it again

What a glorious sight to see on New Years Day! Each year the locals to Westward Ho!, Bideford, Appledore, North Devon and visitors brave the elements to race into the sea at Westward Ho! beach on New Year’s Day.

For many the New Years Day dip is a festive highlight and it certainly a challenging way to start he New Year. Lot’s of effort goes into preparing the perfect costumes and the daring dip certainly is a quick fix to blow away the cobwebs!

The beach is only a short 5 minute ride from Westward Living self catering holiday cottages by car or if your feeling energetic, its about a 20 min walk.  For our guests staying in the prestigious Seahorse Apartments, it’s a 2-minute walk from your luxurious accommodation. – Alternatively you can always choose to just observe from the comfort of your cosy and warm beachfront apartment.

The intrepid beach dip is organised each year by the local Westward Ho! Business Association, it is open to everyone and fancy dress is always encouraged.

Back in Victorian times , the seaside holiday village of Westward Ho! in North Devon was a destination of choice for the well to do and Royals, Victoria people used to travel from miles around the globe to come and take a dip at Westward Ho! just for its health properties.  Almost 200 years later we are still celebrating this awesome beach, this year it celebrates it’s 15thconsecutive year of having the Blue Flag status, we love our precious two miles of safe, sandy golden beach and look forward to seeing which of our guests is brave enough to take the dip in 2020.
