We love to share our knowledge with guests the importance of biodiversity and provide them with memorable and nature-focused experiences. Here are some of the ways we include biodiversity as part of our Westward Living experience.
Native Plant Gardens:
We have created gardens with native plant species that attract local wildlife, such as bees, butterflies, and birds. Include a variety of flowering plants, shrubs, and trees to provide food and habitat for different species.
Wildlife Habitats:
Our birdhouses, bat boxes, and insect hotels around the holiday cottages and surrounding areas. These structures provide shelter and nesting opportunities for various wildlife species.
Organic Gardening:
Our on-site herb garden practices organic gardening methods by avoiding the use of harmful pesticides and fertilizers. Guests are encouraged to explore enjoy some of the natural herbs during their stay.
Pollinator-Friendly Initiatives:
We have 2 meadowed areas with wildflowers specifically designed to attract and support pollinators like bees and butterflies. Why not take a hamper down to the lower lawn and watch magic of nature unfold.
Wildlife Watching:
We love to promote wildlife watching opportunities, whether it is within our grounds at Westward Living or at the nearby North Burrows by providing information about local species and their habitat. If nature is your thing, how about taking a track on the nearby Tarka Trail where guests can observe wildlife in its natural habitat.
Nature Walks:
At the bottom of our grounds our guests have private access on to the South West Coastal Footpath, this incredible National Treasure offers and incredible opportunity to explore the rugged coastline and abundance of biodiversity and local wildlife. If you log on to their website, there is lots of helpful information to help guests to explore the area's natural beauty while learning about its ecological importance.
Nocturnal Wildlife Appreciation:
Most of our cottages will have star gazing telescopes so guests can enjoy star gazing with our zero-light pollution. You can take a walk down to the Kave at night and enjoy the nocturnal wildlife within our 60 acres but remember not to take a torch as artificial lighting can impact wildlife behaviour.
Wildlife-Friendly Policies:
We have implemented policies that protect wildlife, such as prohibiting the feeding of wildlife, discouraging the use of harmful chemicals, and promoting responsible waste management practices to prevent harm to animals and their habitats. We respectfully ask that guests work with us to make sure we can live in harmony with all our residents.
Conservation Partnerships:
We love to collaborate with local conservation organisations & wildlife trusts to support their initiatives. Ask us if you would like to get involved with the beach cleans.
